People generally seek capabilities such as comfort, mobility, nutrition, shelter, or communication rather than fuels for their own sake. The mechanism is that technologies combine energy, materials, design, labor, and timing to produce a service. Follow the chain: a need is defined; an arrangement shapes demand; equipment converts an energy flow; a person receives—or fails to receive—the service. Each link can be observed separately, and a claim about one link should not be silently extended to the whole system.
